Overview

Are you passionate about turning data into meaningful insights and building impactful dashboards? The Report Engineer (BI Developer) is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality reporting solutions that transform raw data into meaningful insights. This role requires strong hands-on Power BI capabilities and intermediate experience with Azure Synapse Analytics to support modern BI and analytics workflows.

 

Primary Location: Across Canada

Work Model: Hybrid 1-Day Onsite

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather and document reporting requirements
  • Design, build, and optimize Power BI dashboards, datasets, and paginated reports
  • Develop data models using best practices aligned with performance and usability standards
  • Use Azure Synapse Analytics (SQL pools, pipelines) to support data ingestion, transformation, and analysis
  • Write and optimize SQL queries and transformations for reporting purposes
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and quality across all BI deliverables
  • Implement Row‑Level Security (RLS) and follow governance standards for data access
  • Troubleshoot report issues and provide enhancements to existing BI solutions
  • Document data flows, logic, models, and dashboards for internal and external stakeholders

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Strong hands‑on experience developing Power BI dashboards, datasets, and DAX calculations
  • Capital Markets experience is required
  • Proficiency in Power Query (M), data modeling, and report performance optimization
  • Intermediate-level experience with Azure Synapse Analytics (SQL pools, pipelines, transformations)
  • Strong SQL skills and familiarity with data warehousing concepts (ETL/ELT, dimensional modeling)
  • Experience pulling data from multiple sources (databases, APIs, cloud storage, files, etc.)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with technical and non‑technical teams

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience with Azure Data Factory or Databricks
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines for BI assets (Git, DevOps)
  • Familiarity with other BI tools (Tableau, Looker, MicroStrategy)
  • Azure or Power BI certifications
  • Experience with enterprise data governance and security best practices
