In this role, you will be responsible for defining future state solutions, including data architecture and models, ensuring they meet rigorous security, availability, and performance standards. You will leverage your extensive experience in cloud migration, Azure technologies, and Big Data/Data Warehouse systems to optimize data access and drive business value. Location: Calgary, AB

Status: Full-Time


Responsibilities:

  • Analyze current state and identify/document gaps between the current state and business requirements
  • Understand business processes and refine business requirements in close collaboration with the stakeholders
  • Define future state solutions, including data architecture and models
  • Ensure that architectural designs meet security and availability requirements
  • Outline high-level steps, plans, and resources required to achieve the future state
  • Complete customer-required specifications for requirements, architecture, and design to gain solution approval from all stakeholders
  • Define governance processes to facilitate adoption and maintenance of solutions
  • Establish best practices to ensure solutions are developed, implemented, and maintained consistently and effectively
  • Manage the team through solution development and delivery
  • Communicate progress and challenges to stakeholders
  • Manage issues effectively as they arise during the solution life cycle
  • Investigate and resolve complex challenges that block developer progress
  • Estimate software/service pricing related to solution design
  • Effectively explain technical projects and their business impact to management and non-technical stakeholders
  • Conduct assessments, discoveries, and identification of bottlenecks, find gaps in infrastructure, recommend improvements, and implement changes
  • Stay informed about the latest technology developments and maintain a "trusted advisor" role with stakeholders

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • Formal education in IT, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related fields
  • 5+ years of experience in a Data Engineering or Architect role
  • 5+ years of practical experience with SQL, including familiarity with SQL statements, stored procedures, indexing, partitioning, distribution, and basic security
  • 3+ years of experience in data modeling
  • Technical presales work is expected – previous experience with presales is highly preferred
  • Hands-on technical expertise in Big Data or Data Warehouse technologies
  • Proven ability to optimize data access for speed, reliability, and velocity, aligned with business needs
  • Extensive experience implementing and leading multiple cloud migration engagements
  • Strong understanding of cloud deployment models such as IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, and Hybrid environments
  • Intermediate to Expert-level experience with Azure Data Factory/Synapse Pipelines, Azure Databricks/Synapse Spark Engine, Azure Analysis Services/SSAS, Azure Synapse Analytics Engine/Azure SQL Data Warehouse, and Microsoft Power BI
  • Energetic and results-oriented, with a proven track record of leveraging technology to achieve business objectives and improve business processes
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating initiative in driving continuous optimization and business improvements
  • Exceptional client-facing communication skills (both written and verbal), with experience collaborating with both onshore and offshore teams

Nice to Have:

  • One or more Azure certifications (AZ-300/303/304, DP-200/201/203, or AZ-103/104) would be an asset
  • Experience with Agile methodologies or an Agile certification
  • Proficiency in Python, R, Scala, Spark, or similar scripting languages
  • Experience with Azure networking or security
